College Internship Program
The Strand Center for the Arts is proud to partner with regional colleges and universities to offer a unique hands-on learning experience through our internship program. Students will see first-hand what it takes to run a multidisciplinary nonprofit arts organization. Internships take place in our theatre and/or arts center depending on the student’s chosen program focus area.

Internships must be completed for college credit in coordination with the student’s college program. Internships are unpaid positions.
Current Internship Opportunities
Theatre Internship
Students will learn alongside the Strand’s Theatre Manager and technical staff.
In their cover letter, students should specify their focus area for this internship: technical (lighting and sound) or management (artist engagement, contracts, day of event details, etc.)
Applications considered on a rolling basis.
Marketing & PR Internship
Students will learn alongside the Strand’s Communications Coordinator & Graphic Designer.
Subject matter includes: marketing best practices, social media engagement, print vs digital ad strategy, media relations, and content creation.
Applications considered on a rolling basis.
Arts Administration Internship
Students will have the opportunity to learn from the Strand’s Executive Director.
Subject matter to be covered in this experience include: grant writing, fundraising, and community programming development.
Internship available for Fall 2025. Only 1 spot available. Applications due: May 1, 2025.
Internship Requirements
Scheduling
Scheduling requirements (weekly vs monthly time commitments) differ dependent on the above programming areas. On average students should expect to commit 16-20 hours per month.
Performance Expectations
All interns will exhibit a professional and polite demeanor, be attentive to accuracy and responsiveness in all situations, and are willing to learn.
Learning Outcomes
The Strand Center for the Arts is dedicated to providing a meaningful educational experience for interns accepted into our program. Staff will work with accepted students at the start of their program to review each individual intern’s desired learning outcomes to best compliment their college educational experience.
