“Gods and Monsters" by Jim Kobak
The Strand Center for the Arts is thrilled to host “Gods and Monsters,” artwork created by painter, Jim Kobak, in the Main Gallery. This upcoming exhibit will open in The Strand Center Main Gallery on Friday, May 7, 2021. A free reception will be held from 5:00 - 8:00 pm that night.
Kobak has put together a collection of morbid creations for his show at The Strand Center for the Arts, entitled “Gods and Monsters,” using various combinations of enamel spray paint, brushwork and inks to create his intense imagery.Concerning the exhibition, Kobak stated: “Humanity has always had a need for the supernatural. We have always sought mighty and grotesque otherworldly beings to inspire and torment our souls. Benevolent gods and heroes have always been pitted against nefarious monsters and demons. Yet, these creations are simply reflections of ourselves. They are personifications of a world we cannot yet control. We all have gods, and we all have monsters. They are us. The question then remains, when do your gods become monsters? … Perhaps all your gods are really monsters.”
