THE STRAND CENTER FOR THE ARTS

ANNUAL REGIONAL JURIED SHOW 2021

“BRING YOUR BEST!”

GUIDELINES AND REGISTRATION

THEME | “BRING YOUR BEST!”

The theme for this year’s Regional Juried Show is “Bring Your Best!” This is an open theme, where participants are encouraged to submit their very best artwork for this competition.

ELIGIBILITY

The Strand Center regional juried exhibition “Bring Your Best!” 2021 is open to all artists. Entries may be in the form of any media, including (but not limited to) painting, drawing, photography, jewelry, sculpture, fiber, ceramics, glass, printmaking, mixed media, and woodwork.

Two-dimensional work must be framed and backed with wire for hanging. Works that are not wired for hanging or do not meet the requirements of our hanging system will not be exhibited and will not be eligible for a refund. All work must be labeled on the front and back with the artist’s name and contact information (phone/email) as well as the title, medium, and price of the artwork. Entries marked “not for sale” may be entered but a dollar value must be noted on the entry form (for insurance purposes). In entering the show, the artist also agrees to have their work on display for the entire duration of the exhibit. Artists can not pick up their work before the close of the exhibit.

SUBMISSIONS

Drop-off for submissions will run from Thursday, September 9 to Friday, September 17, 2021, during regular office hours. All submissions must be received by September 17; there will be no exception to this deadline. Work should be dropped off at the reception desk in the Main Gallery at 23 Brinkerhoff Street in downtown Plattsburgh. In addition to your submission, an entry fee is required. If not received before the judging day the submission will not be judged. All accepted and unselected works will receive notification via email or phone by September 24, 2021. Pick up dates for selected works will be from November 2 – November 9, 2021. Artwork that is not selected can be picked up September 27 – October 5, 2021, during regular office hours. The SCA cannot store artist works and thus will be required to charge a storage fee for any works left after these dates.

ENTRY FEES

A non-refundable entry fee must accompany all work. Without this fee submissions will not be judged.

Members & Students: $25 for one work or $35 for up to three works

Non-Members: $30 for one work or $40 for up to three works

AWARDS

The best in show and second place contestants will be awarded a cash prize. The “Best in Show” artist will have an opportunity to have an exhibition at the Arts Center within two years. This opportunity will cover a solo or group exhibition at the artist’s discretion.

GUEST JUROR

The Strand Center is excited to have fine artist and professor, Ian Burcroff, as our guest juror this year. Ian received his B.A. in Studio Art from SUNY Plattsburgh, and his M.F.A. in Painting from the University of Alaska Fairbanks. His interest in images consisting of fragmented concepts both real and imagined that give a sense of movement within a two-dimensional space creates dynamic work with rapid visual changes. He is also passionate about being an educator and teaches art history, painting and drawing at Clinton Community College.

SALE OF WORK

Please indicate whether your work is for sale. Work is sold at the price listed on the form. The SCA receives a 30% commission on all work sold during the show; please consider this when setting the sale price.

LIABILITY

The SCA’s insurance policy covers work on display, but not in transit. Work is entered at the artist’s risk. The SCA will take every precaution to safeguard the work while in our care. The SCA cannot accept submissions by special delivery services unless notified well in advance and permission given. Works shipped to The SCA without prior permission will be refused.
