The Beauty of Motion Juried Exhibition 2016
October 7th - 28th, 2016
The Strand Center for the Arts exhibited an annual juried show open to artists of all ages and mediums. This year, the theme of the show is “The Beauty of Motion” and participants were encouraged to submit artwork that addresses the theme of motion, movement in all of its forms, from a photograph of a bird taking flight to a narrative illustration on the curved surface of a bowl, and anything in between.
Entries were received in various kinds of artistic mediums, including painting, drawing, photography, jewelry, ceramics, stained glass, printmaking, mixed media, and digital design. Over thirty local artists submitted their work for the competition in the hopes of winning a large cash prize and a solo exhibit at The Strand Center Gallery. Awards for Best in Show, Second Place, and Honorable Mentions were announced during the Opening Reception on Friday, October 7, 2016.
The Strand Center was excited to have fine artist and professor, Ian Burcroff, as our guest juror this year. Ian received his B.A. in Studio Art from SUNY Plattsburgh, and his M.F.A. in Painting from the University of Alaska Fairbanks. His interest in images consisting of fragmented concepts both real and imagined that give a sense of movement within a two-dimensional space creates dynamic work with rapid visual changes. He is also passionate about being an educator and teaches art history, painting and drawing at Clinton Community College.
