About-Face: Global War on Terrorism Veterans Project
About-Face: Global War on Terrorism Veterans Project is a creative program for Global War on Terrorism veterans, an opportunity for them to express their unique experiences and to share their stories with the community. By doing so, they come to know themselves better and build community support and awareness of their contributions as well as a better understanding of their challenges. Summer registration is closed.
About the Project
By engaging in an intensive creative experience in the MakerSpace at the Strand Center for the Arts, participants will have a safe place to explore topics of importance to them such as why they joined the military, its significance for them, various issues they have faced, or other personal reflections. Participants, using prompts from Teaching Artists, will create various art projects utilizing collage, painting, drawing, and digital art. These art projects will serve as the base for a multimedia display including personal memorabilia they wish to include. Participants will then create shadow box displays utilizing a CNC router, laser engraver, and various wood working tools. The resulting shadow box displays will be shared with the community via an exhibition of their work.
This program is FREE to participants thanks to funding, in part, by the Clinton County Legislature. Registration is first come, first served and open to Global War on Terrorism veterans living in Clinton County.
