Susan Hoffer Exhibition 2017

September 1st - 29th, 2017

The Strand Center for the Arts was excited to host oil painter, Susan Hoffer, in the Main Gallery on September 1, 2017.

Hoffer was educated at Johnson State College in Vermont where she received an MFA in Painting. She went on from there to have an impressive amount of solo and group shows across the region, including locations such as the Dietel Gallery in Troy, NY, the BluSeed Gallery in Saranac Lake, NY, and the Albany Center Gallery in Albany, NY.

Concerning her work in this show, Hoffer stated that “I am interested in politics and place. My recent paintings explore the idea that new media can create access for people living in isolated rural areas such as the Adirondack Park to become engaged with cultural issues and political concerns that go beyond their physical locale. I use a tablet to create photographic references and transform the images into paintings. Juxtaposed to each thematic idea is the natural light of the settings where residents work and live.” She went on to add that, “Today, more than ever, independent websites and media outlets, podcasts, and fact-checked social media sites are being used to help remove the barriers that prevent overworked, distracted, and disconnected individuals… from understanding and participating in contemporary issues and movements that benefit them and others. I hope to give voice to these people.”
