Lorrie Mandigo Portraits of the Wild Exhibition 2018

·         June 1st - June 29th, 2018

Lorrie Mandigo was born in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico, in 1965, the youngest of four siblings and the daughter of a military father in the Air Force. Lorrie's love and appreciation for the visual arts began to blossom during her younger years while residing in Germany. Although visiting other "art rich" countries such as France, Spain, Italy and Austria were extremely inspiring, her largest influence came from a junior high school art teacher, Catherine Jones Davies. Miss Davies' continued guidance and reassurance would be the key element in Lorrie's drive to pursue her passion in painting and teaching.

Lorrie graduated in 1986 with an A.A.S. in Advertising Design from Cazenovia College, located in Cazenovia, N.Y., and in 2015 graduated with a B.A. with a concentration in painting from SUNY Plattsburgh, Plattsburgh, N.Y.

A unique attribute of Lorrie's artistic skills is her ability to paint in different media, such as acrylic paints and alcohol ink. Her medium of choice at present is oil paint. Lorrie enjoys the blending quality of oil paint and the slower drying times that allow her to revisit a piece day after day.

Lorrie's work has been on exhibition at the Pouring Light Gallery in Malone, N.Y., Myers Lobby Gallery at SUNY Plattsburgh, The Strand Art Center Gallery in Plattsburgh and also in her own studio and gallery at 30 Broad St., Plattsburgh.

Lorrie’s favorite quote is by Artist, Salvador Dali:

"A true artist is not one who is inspired, but one who inspires others."

This exhibition was a reflection of many endangered and protected species of the natural world. With nature as a great source of inspiration, Lorrie seeks to highlight some off the planet's most vulnerable species and beautiful landscapes. She brings to life breathtaking portraits of wildlife with strong, fresh brushstrokes, allowing the nobility and beauty of each of these living creatures to be seen. Lorrie's focus is on the animal, forgoing much of the background, so the viewer can look deep into the eyes of these amazing creatures.
