Emerging Sculptors Exhibition 2017

May 5th - 26th, 2017

The Strand Center for the Arts was proud to announce the new exhibit opening in May called the “Emerging Sculptors Show.” This exhibit featured artwork from new and up-and-coming sculptors from the immediate and surrounding area.

The Emerging Sculptors Show was an exhibition that was formed as a partnership between the SUNY Plattsburgh sculpture program and The Strand Center for the Arts in an effort to showcase work done by new and up-and-coming sculptors from the immediate and surrounding area. Taking on the task of choosing the artists and their work, Drew Goerlitz, Associate Professor of Sculpture and SUNY Plattsburgh, had this to say of the show: “I am really looking forward to bringing a show of some amazing sculptors to the Strand.  I have had a lot of interest in this exhibition from a lot of really great sculptors encompassing many different backgrounds.  The Emerging Sculptors show will have a vast array of materials, concepts, and aesthetics.”

Working closely with Goerlitz, Strand Center for the Arts gallery director, David Monette, stated this about the show: “I was really thrilled to work with Drew on this project. His knowledge of, and commitment to, sculpture and its visibility in the community is amazing. On top of that, the artists he’s assembled are extremely talented people with an incredibly diverse amount of work.”
