Beekmantown Exhibition 2016

June 10th - June 24th, 2016

The Strand Center for the Arts was thrilled to announce a new exhibit featuring artwork by Beekmantown Middle and High School students in the Community Room in June, 2016.

The artwork that was on display came from both the regular art program at Beekmantown Central School District and the Extended Learning Time (ELT) grant awarded to the school in the spring of 2015, which is funded by the New York State Education Department. Through this grant, Beekmantown was able to bring new learning opportunities to students through BAZ (Beekmantown Adventure Zone).  The BAZ offerings provide students with a safe, exciting, and creative approach to adding enrichment and fun to their school day. Students in grades 6 through 12 enjoyed an enriched lunchtime offering through ELT.  They chose from a variety of daily activities, one of which is an art activity offered by The Strand Center.

The Strand Center for the Arts Gallery Coordinator, David Monette, stated: “I think it’s great that these students are willing to volunteer their free time to create artwork, and we at The Strand Center feel lucky to be involved with the process.”

Concerning the ELT grant and the exhibit at The Strand Center, art instructor, Sarah Banker, mentioned: “The ELT grant has provided the students at Beekmantown with an abundance of opportunities to learn about and create art. The students have created individual and collaborative pieces this school year, and all their work is coming together for a show at the Strand Center for the Arts. It’s going to be great to see the display of everything they have learned.”
