Marilyn Kretser Gallery Cooperative Featured Artist

The Strand Center for the Arts is pleased to announce watercolorist Marilyn Kretser as the featured artist in their Gallery Cooperative for the month of March. This forthcoming exhibit will take place in The Strand Center Community Gallery on Friday, March 2and a free reception will be held from 5:30-7:30 PM that night.

The Gallery Cooperative is a collection of artists, each expert at their chosen medium. This means that as well as the featured artist, Marilyn Kretser, painters Gordon LeClair, Lorrie Mandigo, Judy Guglielmo, Louise Patinelli, and Carol Hochreiter will be present. In addition, these artists will be joined by pastel artist Kimberly Provost, ceramist Nancy Armitage, and photographers Ron Nolland, Frank Hochreiter, and Denise Duprey.

Marilyn Pellegrini Kretser attributes the beginning of her artistic journey to the encouragement and support of her family, friends, and fellow artists. Having received instruction from Bryan Briscoe, Ann Pember Connie Cassevaugh, and Sandy Fox, she continues to learn and exchange ideas with fellow artists at The Strand Center for the Arts and at the Senior Citizens Council in Plattsburgh, NY.

Her greatest inspiration and “learning,” however, continues to grow from observation and painting with her granddaughters Kara and Kiley Kretser whose uninhibited creative energies find their source in the love, gratitude, and joy they express as they paint pictures that become “gifts” for the people they love.

Concerning Kretser’s work, the gallery director at The Strand Center for the Arts, David Monette, stated; “I love the fact that we have Marilyn’s watercolor paintings in the gallery, and just, in general, to have her as a member of the Cooperative. Her paintings are so delicately executed on compositional structures that seem to just happen... but you know they don’t, that there is a lot of careful planning done to arrange the elements in just that manner. It’s great to have her evocative paintings featured in the gallery along with our other, talented artists."

This unique exhibit will be on view in The Strand Center Community Gallery at 23 Brinkerhoff Street in Plattsburgh from March 2 to March 30, 2018. The exhibition opening is Friday, March 2 from 5:30 to 7:30 PM. This event is free to the public and refreshments will be served. Regular gallery hours are Tuesday through Friday from 10 am to 5 pm and Saturday from 10 am to 2 pm.
